We are pleased to announce that Professor Thomas Murray, Yale University Organist and one of our most distinguished American concert organists, will be presenting a Master Class for our chapter on Saturday, October 18th at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Wilkes-Barre! There will be coffee and pastries in the church’s auditorium at 9:30 a.m., then the class will proceed from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the nave.
The class is made possible through The Richard Dower Education Fund, established in memory of Dr. Richard Dower, a distinguished member of our chapter who taught for many years at College Misericordia (now Misericordia University) in Dallas. There will be no charge for the class, but contributions will surely be most welcome to help us defray our expenses.
Professor Murray will be presenting a recital at St. Stephen’s, sponsored by Music from St. Stephen’s, on the previous night – Friday, October 17 at 7:30 pm. Thomas Murray is known throughout the USA and abroad as one of the finest exponents of the art of playing orchestral transcriptions on the organ, and his program at St. Stephen’s will surely include thrilling examples of his artistry in this realm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15, $12 for senior citizens (65+), students and WVIA members (with ID).
